Boys U9's Hurricane - GNP Pumas
Stockton Juniors U9s Hurricane 3 – 1 GNP Sports Juniors U9s Pumas
The Hurricanes recorded their first win of 2025 in strong fashion against a very handy GNP Pumas side, beating their counterparts 3-1 on a particularly fresh, late Saturday morning.
The Hurricanes showed great resolve in putting last weeks heartbreaking draw against Hillmorton, behind them and started strongly with some nice passing and shots at goal.
Dom Weedle displayed his usual strength in centre midfield and broke up play to spray some nice balls down each wing, which Barney, Rafa and Freddie looked to get on the end of.
GNP provided a real threat going forward and missed a hatful of chances to leave the game finely balanced. Stockton capitalised on their strong start on the 5th minute, with some quick thinking by Finley, releasing Freddie to turn his man and fire a dangerous cross towards goal, which Barney expertly turned in at the far post.
Our defence remained solid with Jake, George T and Toby stemming the attacking threat of GNP on numerous occasions.
Stockton held on to see out their lead to half time, via some strong defensive work in the midfield from Murat and Leo.
Speicla mention goes out to George B for a great run through the heart of the GNP defence, showing strength and skill beyond his years, only to fire an arrow of a shot that somehow the GNP keeper manage to parry – unbelievable scenes!
Half Time: 1 – 0 Hurricanes
The second half was a distinctly different game with GNP dominating play and somehow failing to score from the 300 chances they appeared to have. A combination of Edwards brave goalkeeping and Jake and George T kept GNP at bay, but only for so long.
The strength and power of the GNP attack broke Stocktons resolve on 42 minutes – in honesty, it was coming.
The Hurricanes re-set and re-grouped and with some timely substitutions, they found themselves back in front, perhaps undeservedly. A quick kick in from Dom saw him shoot across goal, only for the ball to beat everyone, including the keeper and Freddies toe (!), to make it 2-1.
Stockton weathered the GNP storm and their effort was rewarded in the 54th minute, where Freddie turned his marker on the centre circle, races towards goal and cooly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to steal it for Stockton.
A great return to form for the Hurricanes.
