U13 Calcio Talent & Select - Scarborough Athletic FC

With half term causing havoc for squad selection, it was a tale of excellent development player performances today that helped us on our way to victory, 17-3 over Scarborough Athletic. A special mention for trialist Tom Jarvis and Calcio development players Jake, Maan & Cam stepping up for us to ensure we had a squad for this tie. 

The first half started quickly, ending the first period 4-0 up with a flurry of goals from our front three, an early hat trick for Ted on the right wing. Three more goals in the second period saw us comfortably in the lead at half time with little in the way of a reply from Scarborough. 

Comfortable might be the word, as we allowed a cheap goal right from the second half kick off, underestimating Scarborough's desire to get something from this tie. Jake combined with Logan twice in quick succession to ensure we took the lead in the quarter. Something I always want to drive, whether we are losing big (Forza) or winning big (mostly everyone else) I want us to wipe the slate at the end of each quarter and go and win the next one. 

A flurry of goals in the final period finished off the tie, but not before they scored their 3rd goal in the 71st minute, which will have meant something to their players, having not scored more than twice in a game all season. I think we could sum our game up as composed on the ball at the back, confident playing through the middle and lethal in attack. A clear point to work on appears to be concentration and positioning versus the counter, something we will be working on in the next block of training.
