Open Age Women's First Team - Hall Green United
A slow start saw us go 1-0 down early on as number 7 for Hall Green United took an ambitious shot that dipped just under the cross bar. We were quick to respond with some excellent attacking play which saw Joni Stainton cut inside laying the ball off to Lilia Richmond who neatly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1, all to play for.
We immediately got on the front foot creating many chances as the ball was slotted through to Lily Stancliffe who placed it past the keeper to make it 2-1. She immediately doubled her tally for the day as Joni Stainton drove down the line leaving defenders in her dust executing a pinpoint cross across the floor for Lily Stancliffe to finish off, 3-1
The first substitute of the day was made which saw Lilia Richmond come off for a well earned breather after getting us back into the game and saw Alice Sweeney come on to make her debut for the First Team.
The half was finished off nicely by Kitty Lee-Bentham who got her first off the day driving past the defenders with ease, neatly slotting the ball into the back of the net, 4-1.
After many controversial offside calls, we finished the half with 10 players as the ref saw fit to show Rosie Moor a yellow card and a 10 minute sin bin.
Half Time 4-1 - A slow start was soon remedied as we displayed some excellent fast paced attacking play. The ladies were keen to keep this going in the second half. One change, Lilia Richmond back on, Freya Ott off.
The game resumed which set the story for the second half as we remained dominant on the ball creating a wealth of opportunities in-front of goal
We were quick to make it 5-1 as Lily Stancliffe received the ball in the box and slotted it straight past the keeper, her 3rd of the day completing a debut league Hatrick.
Kitty Lee-Bentham looking to follow suit received the ball in the middle of the pitch and drove forward, warding off competition from the defenders, breaking through their last line and taking the ball past the keeper calmly slotting it away to make it 6-1
It’s safe to say the game was well and truly won at this point but the ladies didn’t stop there and were keen to send a message to the rest of the league.
Lily Stancliffe not satisfied with just the Hatrick saw the ball drop perfectly for her to volley it straight over the keeper and into the back of the net, 7-1, 4 goals on the board for Lily
As we started to approach the end of the game, Lucy Smith in her true Rolls Royce fashion, glided forward with the ball getting her self into the box looking for an opportunity to get her shot off. Some good defending saw her get the ball to Rosie Moor who slotted it into the back of the net to get her first of the day and to make it 8-1.
The last change of the day saw Freya Ott return to play as Kira Robinson earned a well deserved rest (and 3 week holiday).
As we approached the final minutes of the game, Alice Sweeney played the ball out to Freya Ott who played Joni Stainton through. Driving forward to goal Joni unselfishly played the ball across goal allowing Kitty Lee-Bentham to karate kick the ball into the back of the net, completing a Hatrick on her first competitive game in senior football, 9-1
Full Time - 9-1 - A really impressive day at the office as we showed some excellent attacking play and were unlucky not to come away with more goals.
