Women's 1st XV - Biggar
Oban lorne ladies welcomed Biggar ladies to Glencruitten on Sunday 29th Sept at 2pm. Hoping to regroup from a disappointing performance against West the previous week the ladies had worked hard on defensive play in training knowing Biggar who are top of West 1 Ladies league table have had some big score lines and would be very tough opponents.
From the outset it was clear Oban would need to press hard in defence and work as a team to keep on top of the attack play as Biggar soon optimised on gaps in defence to burst through the Oban line and score. Oban fought hard and defended well for long periods in the first half and showed some promise in attack but couldn’t break through Biggars strong defensive line. Jordan MacIntyre managed to hold up a Biggar try as Oban defended hard on the line before the first half finished. Another two break away tries from Biggar left Oban trailing 19-0 at half time.
Although Oban managed some possession showing good lines and strong running from Arden Binnie, Jordan MacIntyre and Hannah Thomson unfortunately for Oban the second half wasn’t showing much signs of improvement with a Biggar try shortly after half time. Oban managed to steal possession a few times but didn’t take advantage and were too slow with the ball being turned over at the ruck or penalties given away and Biggar capitalising playing big passes out wide on the wing with some amazing speed bursting through and leaving Oban on the back foot with yet another try. Some amazing chase down tackles from Oban backs Amy Gibson, Poppy McKillop and Katie Hamilton kept Biggar slowed down at points but the experience of Biggars team structure running hard lines soon over came the Oban defence with three break through tries one after the other in quick succession in the last quarter. In the dying minutes of the game Oban fought back with some good attacking play in the Biggar 22 but the final whistle blew leaving Oban with no points on the board. Final score Oban 0 - Biggar 52.
