Girls U11's Wildcats - Leam Lions RA
What a great team performance from the Wildcats today!
Before the match we talked about getting passes forward quickly - which we have been working on in training - putting pressure on the opposition and shooting early. All of which we did throughout the game today.
We started the game strong again - we were quicker to every ball and creating chances but just couldn’t get the ball in the net.
Our setup from goal kicks was much more effective today with Maisie playing the ball straight through the Leamington midfield on multiple occasions looking for the striker.
Leamington didn’t create a lot in the first half but they did take the lead 5 minutes before halftime with a powerful shot from inside the box.
Halftime 1-0 down but given how we were playing the message to the team at the start of the second half was simply to go and win the game.
With Brooke switching into goal at halftime (and doing brilliantly!), Rosie switched into defence alongside Arabella - and WOW - a great joint effort!!
10 minutes in Maisie shot early from the edge of the box - the keeper fumbled the save and Tilly was alert in the box and pounced to equalise! ⚽️
5 minutes later Lily-Rae pressured the goalkeeper into a mistake - stealing the ball to deservedly put us ahead! ⚽️
With 10 minutes to play it was all about holding on to our lead and every single player dug in, defended as a team and kept Leamington out. Leamington came close, hitting the post a couple times but the Wildcats were determined to get the win!
With Leamington pushing forward we almost caught them out with another pass straight through the midfield at the end - Emily unfortunate not to get another goal.
Every player should be super proud of their performance today. That’s a great result against a team playing in one of the higher league groups.
