Vs Kill. League Away

When a draw feels like a defeat!!! That is the overriding emotion following the game.

The way Kill Celtic celebrated a draw at the end shows this was played like a cup final to them. Naas put 7 past Kill Celtic at home earlier the season.

Naas started the game quiet slowly and allowed Kill Celtic to grow into the game, which they gained confidence from. Kill Celtic battled for every ball and did not allow Naas to get the ball down to pay their usual passing game. There was limited chances at either end, with Kill Celtic shading the game. Kill Celtic took a deserved lead when they found their right winger free on the right hand side of the box, and he made no mistake from 10 yards out. The goal woke Naas up and we started to get on top and create chances. The best chance of the half fell to Evan Moriarty, following good work down the right from Ned Keogh. The ball fell to Evan at the back post, he chested it down, but there was a deflection which pushed it just wide of the post.

At half time Naas made a number of changes, and gradually started to get on top. James McGrath was causing havoc down the right and forced 2 excellent saves from the Kill Celtic keeper. Naas were fully on top and were peppering the goal now, with Aaron O Donnell going close from the edge of the box, with Kill Celtic keeper again saving well. Kill Celtic were putting bodies on the line and defeated for their lives. Naas were getting corner after corner, and from a good delivery from Adam Bracken, Kill did that deal with it and it fell to Aaron who blazed over from 6 yards. The goal had to come and it finally did, when Ben Harrington played a ball into Aaron, who broker down the right, and finished excellently from 12 yards. Kill Celtic only outlet was to hit the ball long, but Andrew, Freddie, Matthew dealt with this well. Naas were continuing to press, with corner after corner coming.

With 6 minutes left, again Adam swung in a good ball which Tadgh Fennell ran onto and hit a half volley from the edge of the box, which was blocked by Kill Celtic, the ball fell to Aaron who made no mistake from 6 yards. 2-1 Naas and every player went to celebrate with Aaron, which was great to see.

Naas had a number of other chances, which was either saved by the GK, or we had an unfortunate bobble, just as we were pulling the trigger. With less than 1 minute to go, Kilcock pumped a long hopeful ball forward, which fell right between Andrew, Tadgh and James in goal; Kilcock forward picked our pocket and tapped into an open net. 2-2!!!! Punch in the guts for the lads.

Whilst the result is a blow, the league is a long way from being over.

Best on the day for Naas was Sean Stafford, Cormac Donegan was very assured coming on, Aaron O Donnell made a massive impact coming on. But Andrew O Toole was a rock at the back and stand out today for Naas.
