Leamington Brakes U10s Purple 7 vs Bedworth United Mavericks 2

It was back to league action for Brakes this morning and it was a familiar story with the boys extending the unbeaten run that stretches all the way back to the first game of the season.

This game was definitely the stereotypical game of two halves. Mavericks started fast and had a couple of chances inside the first minute but it was Brakes who took the lead with a beautiful passing move involving Beau, Edward, Artem, and Rufus, that allowed Sam to rush through and finish coolly. The first half continued to be fairly even and Mavericks got an equaliser when Edward was very unfortunate to deflect a corner into his own net when trying to clear.

It’s unclear what Ben and Tom said to the boys at half time but they came out a completely different team and put in one of their best displays of passing football of the season. At times it was a joy to watch and it was clear the boys were thoroughly enjoying themselves. Edward put them 2-1 up when some neat feet just outside the box took him away from the defender before he fired low and hard into the bottom corner. It was 3-1 shortly after when Rufus powered a short low past the keeper who was really keeping Mavericks in the contest. Beau was pushed into a more advanced position and capitalised by smashing into the roof of the net when the ball fell to him in the middle of the penalty area. Mavericks hit back to make it 4-2 but any hopes of a comeback were soon dashed when Toby rounded the keeper to add a fifth. To their credit Mavericks kept pushing but couldn’t find a way past the defence of Ollie, Bertie, Stefan and Joe with the latter making some good stops and commanding his area at corners. The game was put to bed when Sam scored a thoroughly deserved second having been frustrated a number of times already. The icing on the cake was provided by Player of the Match, Toby, when he powered a header past the goalie from Sam’s corner. Brakes march on looking to extend their unbeaten run all the way to the end of the season.
