Stockton Grizzlies - Birmingham Metalheads

Weekend just gone, the mighty Stockton Grizzlies travelled to far flung Marston Green to face off against a fearsome Birmingham Metalheads Team who were fresh off success at the Summer Cup.
Grizzlies, led by unrelenting starting pitcher Lu Choy opened in ideal fashion holding the home team to a scoreless first inning.
Over the first few innings although the Stockton bats were making good contact, a well polished Birmingham defense gave them nothing to show for it through four. In reply the Metalheads were able to build a lead inning by inning. At the bottom of the fourth the score stood at 9-0.
The fifth, sixth and seventh all passed in the blink of an eye with both teams displaying top drawer pitching and defensive work in the field.
Into the top of the 8th and the Grizz managed to stack the bases with some runners. A towering flyball from previous bystander come left fielder H Willshire somehow managed to find some unmanned ground. This was enough to push over the first run of the game and brought the score to 9-1. Could this rev up the team? Set fire to the bats? Spur on the miraculous come back?
No...and as the dark clouds rolled in, the heavens shortly opened bringing the game to a quick and soggy halt. After several minutes of Ray Mears style sheltering in the trees both teams agreed to call the game.
A very confidence inspiring performance by the Grizzlies in a game against a very strong and solid opposition. We'll look forward to playing again later in the season.
No league games this coming weekend so Stockton will field a friendly team to get some game time in with local team Worcester Sourcerers. Looking forward to a fun filled game and hopefully some sun....maybe.
