Men's 1st XV - Cambuslang
Oban Lorne ended 2024 in style with a commanding 68-12 victory over Cambuslang at Glencruitten. Fielding a strong squad, bolstered by players from Mid Argyll RFC and one from Lochaber RFC, Oban delivered a performance to be proud of in front of their home crowd.
The match started with Cambuslang taking an early lead, scoring the first try through a well-executed driving maul. However, Oban responded emphatically, showcasing the fast, flowing rugby and quick ball movement they’ve been diligently working on in training. When Oban attack with confidence, they produce entertaining rugby, and today was no exception.
Calum MacLachlan led the charge with three well-taken tries, while captain-for-the-day Vasil Borisov also crossed the whitewash, stepping up in the absence of regular skipper Jamie Bate due to injury. Blair MacFarlane, who had a strong game with the boot, converting 9 out of 10 kicks, also added a try.
Debutant Calum MacDonald impressed, capping his excellent performance with a try of his own. Other scorers included Lorne Sinclair, who earned Player of the Match honours with some fantastic, powerful running, as well as Malcolm MacIntyre, Murray MacDonald, and Fergus Taylor.
The win was a showcase of Oban’s attacking prowess, with the team delivering on their potential and providing plenty of entertainment for the home supporters. The lads will now enjoy a well-earned rest over the festive period, recharging for the final six games of the league season. After this commanding performance, they’ll be looking to build momentum and challenge the league’s top two teams in the new year.
A fantastic way to close out 2024—well done to all involved!
