Men's 1st XV - Bishopton

Oban Lorne made the journey south to Bishopton on Saturday with a keen squad of 17 players, and returned home with an impressive 64-19 win after a controlled and patient performance.
Oban started the scoring early and led from the front throughout the match, but credit must go to Bishopton who kept the scoreline respectable for much of the first half. The home side used their big ball carriers to good effect, with their prop, number 8 and second row all causing problems and getting them on the scoreboard.
Despite that, Oban stuck to their structure and gradually began to pull away. Their intensity and physicality started to take its toll on the home side, with Bishopton losing a few players to injury as the game wore on. Oban’s defence remained solid and their attacking play started to flow, particularly in the second half where they scored freely and took control of the game.
The last 10 minutes were particularly enjoyable for the men in green and red, with Oban scoring three quick, dynamic tries to finish the match strongly — including, finally, a first try of the season for James Divers, much to the delight of his teammates.
Try scorers on the day were captain Jamie Bate, George Ritchie, Blair MacFarlane, Lorne Sinclair, Lorne MacLachlan, Luke Plummer, and of course James Divers. Blair MacFarlane also added an excellent 7 conversions from the tee.
Oban Lorne now look ahead to their final two matches of what has been a long league season — their last home game on Friday 26th April under the lights at Glencruitten, before finishing away to Helensburgh on Saturday 10th May.
