Jets M1 vs Aberdeen

A solid performance from the team saw a well deserved 3:1 win away to Aberdeen.

After a long journey North to the Granite City the first set started with some strong serving and setting a solid passing unit allowing Jani to establish the middle early with Bart and Ruari hitting a few howitzers to unsettle an inexperienced Aberdeen middle block. This set the tone for set 1 with Jani able to spread the play giving Lukasz and Niko just  1 blocker to take the game away from Aberdeen.  Tadas playing off setter set the right sided block perfectly giving the Aberdeen power hitters a tough time.  A solid performance saw a convincing first set go to the away side.

Set 2 started well for Aberdeen who started to pass much better and their hitters began to find a good rhythm causing the Jets defence all sorts of problems.  The Jets attack was still performing well with smart plays from Niko and the power of Lukasz really causing the team in red issues.  A close competitive set was in full flow with excellent side out play from both teams.   The jets defence stepped up with some excellent blocking and scrambling to take a hard earned lead.  With a flurry of pick ups in defence and some solid blocking from Tadas and Jani the second set was won with a brilliant shot down the line by Lukasz after a great pick up by Nikos.  A great play which was a fitting end to an excellent set of volleyball.  2:0 to the high flying Jets.

The third set started scrappy but saw the jets team still in the ascendancy.  Errors started to creep in though with serving and passing not being at the same level as in set 2. Jani having just 1 option in attack saw the Aberdeen defence really step up and fought hard to get themselves back in the game.  The experience of the Aberdeen outside hitters began to show as their setter began to find the perfect lane with ease.   With their tails up Aberdeen took the set away from Jets in the middle part. Jets fought hard towards the end of the set and the introduction of Daniel had a positive impact - the young Marine impacted the game well but Aberdeen closed out the set in impressive fashion to make it 2:1.

Jani then harnessed his inner Alex Ferguson by dishing out the hairdryer treatment to get the team to focus on the job at hand.   Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should take note as the first point saw a great pass by Scott and a perfect kill from Niko.  The second point saw Bart stuff their middle and the boys were back on top form and a cheeky smile from coach Jani.  With a spring in his step Jani then got into the blocking action himself causing chaos in the Aberdeen front line.  Every hit was getting a touch and Ruari and Jani were on fire and the back court picking absolutely everything up.   Even an expertly defended dig by Scott right at Nikos napper found its way back across the net.    The away support were getting excited that a win was coming and upped the atmosphere inside the beach arena.   The fighting spirit in a new Jets team shone through to the final score of 25:19 and a 3:1 victory making it a second win on the bounce.

Next up is a top of the table clash vs City if Edinburgh.
