U13 Turquoise 24/25 - Broxbourne phoenix
today we hosted broxbourne phoenix. We knew it would be a tough game as they have won all of their games so far this season! And after last weeks loss I told the girls we needed to put in a big performance and play for each other as a team.
We started off strong lots of possession and attacking down both wings. It was a very hard fought game in the middle of the pitch with lots of tackles form both sides. Lexi and alexia were running them ragged down the wings and that’s where our first chance came from. A great ball across from the left and calleigh was inches away from scoring with the ball going just wide!
Straight after that broxbourne went down the other end and almost scored but for an excellent save from Ellie her strong one handed save pushing it over the bar for a corner.

I told the girls at half time to carry on as we were. Broxbourne didn’t know what had hit them they were down and shocked at how well we were playing! I said if we get the first goal it’s ours!! we went out with the same mentality as the first half and within 5 minutes alexia got the ball and her shot went wide mia managed to keep it in and delivered a great cross for Alexia to run in and volley the ball home!!! ⚽️ 1-0
Now we really started to play! The centre midfielders Mia and pixie were working non stop from running to tackles to getting back to help the defense! By far their best performance this season. We were getting so many opportunities but just lacked that final ball or finish! But the girls carried on. Ettie and calleigh were playing up front today out of their comfort zone but both did extremely well pressing the defenders and chasing the ball at every opportunity. And the defense was solid! Emily, flo, lillybelle and Liz were great! All holding the line well and listening to instructions. They didn’t give the opposition any time on the ball. Marking tightly and making tackle after tackle.
Todays performance was what I was hoping for after last weeks result! The girls played for pride today not only for me , Steve and Ian but for themselves!!! They went out and showed us how good they really are and how well they can play when they play as a team. Im very proud of todays result but it only counts if we go out and play like that next week and show our commitment as a team.
