U13 Purple 24/25 - Whetstone wanderers
💜GOGS U12 purple v Whetstone Wanderers💜
Today we welcomed Whetstone. We played them last year in a tournament and knew they’re a strong team. Entering into their third season, they’re well established with a lot more experience, but we went out with the attitude that we’d go out and give it our all.
We were missing a few key players today and we knew this would make a difference to our game.
On kick off Whetstone came at us fast, strong and very physical. We were very slow to start. We looked like we couldn’t be bothered and our commitment didn’t show on the pitch. GOGS seemed to be getting intimidated by them and by half time we were losing 2:0.
In the second half we seemed to up our game and pick up the pace. We were passing more and communicating better however Whetstone were stronger than us and the girls couldn’t cope with the physicality of the game. We were getting angry and losing focus. Unfortunately 5 of our players were injured and we were running out of subs to use.
Whetstone were dominating play and they took shot after shot on our goal but Sophie was a machine and saved one after another, diving and coming out of goal. Had it not been for Sophie today the score could have easily been 11:0.
Chelsea then had a severe asthma attack on the pitch and being on the floor unable to breathe she had to come off whilst the emergency services were called.
we could have played a lot better but today wasn’t our day. End result was a loss of 5:0.
We have taken a lot away from today so we’ll be focussed on improving these areas and come back stronger next week.
