Home League Match vs Bedwell Rangers

GOG U13s Purple vs Bedwell Rangers

Another home game at Churchgate on this cold morning, as we welcomed Bedwell Rangers.

We knew it would be a challenge as they sat at the top of the league for the first few weeks. After last week’s result the girls were excited and raring to put on a show again. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the passes together to make any inroads in the game. We were dealing with their main threat up front with Sofia making key challenges on her. Even when it did get past Sofia, Maya would be excellent showing speed and strength to get back. The remainder of the first half was a little slow and sluggish.

0-0 half time.

With some words of encouragement and new instructions for the second half the girls knew we had to push on and do the basics to get the goals we needed.

Elisa bought some pace and directness towards their goal straight away in the second half, putting them under pressure. This is what we knew we could do. Jess would go on her runs down the right and cause problems. We were playing much better football and again when the ball did go the other end our defence was so strong. Maya would be calm getting the ball down the line when under pressure from the forward player. With 20minutes gone in the second half Mariah went down the left to cut it into the middle, Emma flicked it on and Amaya was there to slot it in the corner. 1-0 up!

As soon as that first one went in we grew in confidence and the tempo and intensity was ramped up. Mariah went through again and the ball made its way to the keeper, we always say to them be prepared for any fumbles the keeper may do and that’s exactly what Emma did!! She was there to make it 2-0. Excellent anticipation by Emma. Two minutes later with probably her best strike she has done Amaya received the ball from Lily J and she fires it into the top corner beating the goalkeeper, to make it 3-0. We wasn’t stopping there as Mariah played in Elisa down the left and she cuts in past a defender to calmly put it in the bottom corner. 4-0

With time running out the opposition went through and had a few corners back to back but our defence was concentrating all the way to the final whistle and was able to keep another clean sheet. The back three and keeper was ecstatic as last week we let in a very late goal.

All in all the first half wasn’t the best we could play but the girls stepped up in the second half and put in an excellent display all round.
