U13 Turquoise 24/25 - Welwyn Pegasus

so today we kicked our cup campaign off against welwyn Pegasus. we knew it would  be a tough game as we played them 3 weeks ago in the league and lost 5-0!!!

We didn’t turn up that day and and made some really costly errors! 

Before the game we had a really important talk about team work and  playing as a unit. 

The girls didn’t disappoint! It was a very competitive match from the off. Both teams playing some really nice football. Both defenses were solid and neither team was giving much away. There wasn’t many chances as both teams were cancelling each other out. Then with only a couple of minutes left in the first half welwyn broke away and we thought we had cleared the ball only for one of their players to hit a screamer from outside the bit and into the roof of the net!! ⚽️ 0-1 the worst time to concede!!  

At half  time I told the girls it wasn’t over and the next goal was massive. We had to carry in as we did in the first half and our chance would come. The second half kicked off and went pretty much the same as the first. End to end and both teams giving it their all.  Ten minutes in and we broke on the attack alexia jiggling her way through into the box and getting taken down. Penalty! Having missed her last one she was under pressure to take the kick but credit to her she stepped up and dispatched it into the top corner! ⚽️ 1-1 game on!! 

We continued from there attack after attack. Defending their attacks and with ten minutes left we broke into their box again this time the defender couldn’t get the ball and handled it. Another penalty!!  Again alexia stepped up. Did her ritual of tying her shoe lace and this time put it into the opposite top corner!! ⚽️ 1-2 

We had turned the game around! With ten minutes left we carried on attacking and the game was still ended to end. With five minutes left we made some tactical substitutions and tried to hold on to the lead we had. Welwyn pressured us but we held firm and once we got the ball In their half we were not going to let them have it back! Finally the whistle went and we won and are through to the next round!!! 👊🏻

todays game was massive. After last weeks win which was our best performance of the season so far I told the girls that was the bench mark and every game had to be played like that! They took inboard what was said and again made me proud. They played as a team and a unit and surpassed last weeks result. These girls don’t know how good they are or how good they could be! Player for player today every girl played their hearts out and they were fantastic. Every game now is going to be hard as our division is strong. But if they keep playing like they did today then no one will stop us!
