U11 Comets - Bedfont eagles whitesox

We knew going into this game it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park as this was our first game after moving up a league and it was against a Club who we knew from the previous season didn’t play fairly . 

With out Dylan for this week and next we opted to start with Will in goal for the first half and then Fizaan and Thomas to share the next half in goal. 

1q A fairly slow start from both teams but we soon won a throw in which was taken by Fizaan to Alex and Zaeem in the middle of the pitch but it was cleared away from defenders . 

After Bedfont counter attacked us they won a Corner . The cross in was won by Josh beating the opponents to the ball and heading it away and out for another corner but nothing come of it. 

Alex and josh working together to take the ball away from BF players and run down field to attack their goal. Joshs long range shot goes wide of the goal. 

 Shortly after the goal kick josh got winded and was subbed off for a break to get his breath back and Fletcher came on. 

Fletch and Alex in attack mode with Alex taking a shot but it gets a finger tip from BF keeper to go for corner.  

Corner taken directly to Fizaan for him to header but it goes across the goal where Zaeem was waiting to cross it back in to Fizaan but the shot goes wide of the goal. 

We tried something that had worked in previous games from a goal kick where the ball was passed to Henry who took a touch before then giving it a big power kick down the wing for Zaeem and Fletcher to run into but BF soon figured this tactic out and closed us down.

Evenly matched with the Comets doing very well holding off Bedfont . 

Luca with a couple of his famous big clearances away and up field. 

BF on the attack managed to get past several of our players and put the ball past Will making it 1-0. 

Another quick attack from their goal kick ends up with BF scoring 2-0 . 

3q this quarter saw our opponents start to play unfairly with badly timed tackles and shoving. 

Will coming out of goal and going to play upfront with Thomas replacing Will in goal. 

BF with another quick counter attack and in our net 3-0 shortly after kick off. 

Throw from BF goes past 2 of our players leaving Thomas to make a diving save to deny them scoring again. 

It was Comets turn to attack with Will and Zaeem working together but zaeems shot goes wide of the goal. 

BF are quick to counter against us resulting in another goal 4-0 .

Not long after our restart Bedfont won the ball back and scored again 5-0 . 

Power play then come into play allowing Luca to come on and help out in defence . 

A Shot from Bedfont was saved by Thomas and not knowing where the ball was it had stopped between his feet when he dived for it. 

Even with an additional player and 4 defenders we still conceded another goal. 

6-0 .

4q this quarter the fouling increased but Comets were now giving back what they got . Knowing it was virtually impossible to win the game now it was decided to a) stop another goal b) score a conciliation goal for us . 

We won a corner after josh had ran down the wing with the ball and taking a deflection from the defender. 

Josh took the corner and it gets a deflection of a BF player at the front post and into the net 6-1 . 

Josh had another run with the ball this time mid pitch and his long range shot gets a deflection to go for corner but this was cleared out by there defender. 

Comets players braved some tackles to stop another goal going against us and in one incident not long before full time Fletch had slide tackled and got the ball from the player but the player caught him on the knee with his stud and then when he got up he was shoulder barged by this player . 

With fletch injured he came off and I made the ref aware to watch this player as it had happened several times throughout the game . Before i could mention to the manager about his behaviour he was subbed off. 

To be fair to their coaches they did see this and made the players aware if there was anymore of it they would be subbed off and he did come and see if Fletcher was ok.  And even apologised after the game for the tackles towards the end on our players. 

All in all a tough first game in the new league but there’s one thing to remember. Ice cream solves everything.
