Women's 1st XV - Hillhead Jordanhill 2XV
Oban Lorne Ladies travelled away to Hillhead Jordanhill 2XV this weekend for their second last away game of the season. The game started frantically with both teams struggling to keep a hold of the ball in slick conditions. Hills settled in quickest and started their attack, Oban finding themselves on the back foot, regained a bit of composure and hunkered down in defence. Big tackles from Caitlin Fowler and Rebecca Sims helped to hold off the on slot. Eventually fatigue set in and the cracks began to appear allowing Hills to open the scoring 7-0 to the home side.
Oban unable to keep possession hunkered down again. Being pushed further and further into their own half Oban conceded a penalty in front of the posts allowing Hills to add a further 3 points to their lead. After a tough fight and a few injuries, the halftime whistle blew.
Oban collected themselves going into the second half receiving the kick and maintaining possession. With a strong lineout and scrum, Oban’s forwards showed dominance throughout the game. This wasn’t quite enough and Hills broke the line again gaining another 7 points. Not to be out done, Oban picked themselves up and took the games right back into the Hills half. Phase after phase inching closer to the line Oban’s Poppy MacKillop finally finished off a hard worked team try with Ellie Macinnes adding the extras. With a glimmer of hope spreading through the team Poppy gathered the ball again and did what she does best. Relying on her footwork and speed Poppy weaved her way through the Hills defence adding another 5 points as the final whistle blew. At the finish up the score was 15-12 in Hills favour. Oban Ladies now have a weekend off before hosting West of Scotland at home on the 17th November.
