U13 Calcio Talent & Select - AC1
Calcio played with bravery and resilience this weekend to produce another hard fought comeback victory to win 3-2 in a top of the table clash with AC1.
On a cold and muddy December morning, Calcio began the match with the toughness and physicality required to dominate the first period of play. Going up 1-0 in only the first minute of play appeared to shock the opponents, who weren’t able to come to terms with our aggressive press and disruptive midfield play. After the break AC1 had clearly received a talking to and scored immediately to tie the game. The game ebbed and flowed in a scrappy affair throughout the next two periods, with neither team creating many clear cut chances in the final third. AC1 perhaps getting the better of this period, added another goal on 51’, a tidy header from a corner. Throughout this period of the game Isaac made some excellent saves to keep us in the tie.
The final period began as the last period ended, with AC1 on top. This prompted a couple of changes in personnel and a change in formation to 4-2-4 to create a new problem for the opposition. Credit to the boys, they were able to go out there and make a difference, exploiting the overload initially on 70’, with a great piece of play from Ted down the right, finding Logan as the free man in the box for a tap in equaliser. We again caused problems with our front four on 78’, this time jack picking up the ball between the lines and providing a sensational ball to Logan to slot home for his hat trick. A fantastic effort from all in the final moments of the game, which required a real desire to win.
The reward for the boys is top of the league at Christmas and puts us in pole position to secure a spot at the JPL Nationals!
