Girls U10's - Coventry Blue & Daventry Panthers
This morning saw Stockton head over to Coventry for the U9 Spring Cup in a 3 team group with Coventry Blue and Daventry Panthers - 2 shorter matches with the team top of the group progressing to the semi finals.
First up was Coventry Blue vs Stockton. We faced each other in the February festival in a 5-2 win for Coventry, however; we were looking forward to the challenge in front of us today.
Kick off came and within in a couple of minutes we found ourselves 1-0 down. Despite the early setback and nervousness we settled down and began to compete well and battle with Coventry for every ball.
In goal Harriet was having a fine game in goal, making some great saves and bocks as chances were beginning to fall to Coventry.
We found ourselves 2-0 down just before half-time, not out of the game but work to do in the 2nd half to get back into it.
We re-gathered ourselves and were ready to go again for the 2nd half with an emphasis on trying to create opportunities to score.
We started the 2nd half well and pulled a goal back with a powerful finish from Ivy from just outside the penalty area.
Ivy deservedly pulled us level 2-2 with another lovely goal.
At this point the game was all to play for.
The girls were working hard to compete but it was Coventry who regained their lead and added a 4th late on.
Unfortunate for Stockton not to get anything out of the game but a really good performance all round and the girls should be proud of themselves.

The 2nd game of the morning vs Daventry.
We’ve had some brilliant encounters with Daventry and we were victorious in our last meeting in the cup.
A few fresher legs on for this one giving the girls a deserved rest.
It was a tight game in the early stages with chances for both teams. Sienna and Daphne were battling hard in midfield, trying to get the ball forward.
Daventry took a lead with well taken goal midway through the first half. We kept our heads up and continued to probe but Daventry were keeping us at bay.
We had a couple of chances from free kicks but the ball would just not go in for us.
Daventry went 2-0 up and added a 3rd goal to end the match with a good win for them.
Not our day today despite some good football on show.
