Girls U10's - Cov Sphinx U9’s
A closely fought game between two evenly matched teams. It took a while for either side to gather any momentum as the going was soft and the ball was sticking to the surface a little.
Stockton got on top and took a deserved lead with Ivy running clear, beating the defender and scoring with a low shot past the keeper.
There were good passages of play from both teams with Harriet making some good saves and Edith with some brilliant interceptions.
Ivy made it 2-0 with another well taken goal putting us in a commanding position. A run through the defence saw Ivy fouled and the referee pointing to the spot, Ivy picked herself up to take the kick but surprisingly scooped her shot over the bar. A glorious chance to extend our lead so a huge let off for Cov.
Edith was unfortunate as she burst from defence into attack with a great run only to see her shot cleared.
We then had a sleepy moment and gifted a goal to Cov after a goal kick/defensive mix up. Cov then had their tails up who broke free and scored a good goal drawing the game level at half time.
The early stages of the 2nd half were evenly matched and both teams were creating chances but it was Cov who took the lead for the first time in the game and then added to scoreline twice more as the 2nd half progressed.
Stockton continued to compete well with Cov and it was Mila who found space and hit a firm shot inside the area which found the back of the net. Ivy then grabbed her 3rd goal of the game following a good team move.
A great game for all involved, well done to all of girls who played some really nice football today.
