Girls U10's - Coventry City Blue
This morning the U9’s faced Coventry City Blue in the cup semi final. With both teams finishing top of their groups we were expecting a good game.
We took the lead in the 1st minute of the game. A punt up the pitch by GK Harriet which cleared the midfield and defence. It was evident that the pitch was on the short side as the ball bounced straight through and dipped over their GK into the net - but a brilliant start all the same.
After a nervous start we were soon matching Cov in all areas of the pitch and competing well and settled into the game.
Coventry were creating good space and chances for themselves but Harriet was having a superb game in goal to keep them at bay.
Coventry did; however, draw themselves level after a looping shot evaded Harriet’s reach. So it was level at the break after putting in a good first half display.
In the 2nd half we struggled to create any clear cut chances and we were a little stand offish at times giving Cov the space to manoeuvre the ball. Cov capitalised and made it 2-1 midway through the 2nd half and then added a 3rd shortly after, a tap in at the far post.
The girls didn’t let their heads drop though and continued to put up a fight.
A fourth goal for Coventry followed after the ref allowed play to continue despite Edith taking the ball full force into her mid-section. The ref could have stopped play for a moment but he didn’t and a goal resulted.
We had a few chances late on with Molly & Sienna going close but it was Coventry who were clinical in front of goal today despite Harriet having an amazing game in goal.
A brilliant effort from all of the girls today in a game where their efforts deserved more.
