Girls U14's - Coventry Sphinx U13’s
The U13s may have lost their 100% record this season, but remain undefeated after another tough battle against a big physical team.
The girls started slowly in the game, Sphinx having the majority of the ball and despite a couple of fine saves from Xan, who was playing in goal in place of the poorly Freya, they took the lead after 15 mins, a simple tap in after a scramble in the box.
This seemed to stir the girls on, and they started to play some of the passing football they are capable of, crosses going across the box but nobody there to finish. We then got a free kick about 20 yards out, Ila struck it, it crashed against the crossbar and back out to Bethan who smashed it back in for the equaliser. 1-1 at half time.
2nd half and it was our turn to control the game, couple of opportunities and plenty of corners. A corner game in, we had several chances to get a strike on goal, they block, they breakaway and manage to get 4 on 2, despite Amber trying her best it wasn’t enough and Sphinx undeservedly led 2-1.
Again, the girls showed great character to hit back, another corner from Ila and there was Daisy to put it in for the 2nd equaliser, really pleasing as we have been working on attacking crosses and corners. We had one more great chance that Daisy just dragged wide whilst Sphinx had 1 or 2 other openings, but in the end 2-2 was about the fairest result.
The girls have had a really tough start to the season fixture wise and should be mighty proud of how they have performed so far, doesn’t get any easier next week, top of the table clash with Coventry City Reds!
