Trophy Event vs Racing Club Warwick

We were supposed to be at Home last weekend, but due to the crazy volume of rain our pitches had suffered they were unplayable. Fortunately for us however, we were scheduled to play our friends at Racing Club… who have an all weather Astro pitch 🙌🏼👌🏼

It was a beautiful crisp morning and the sun was shining. It was great to see some familiar friendly faces on the pitch - and the sidelines - including an ex-player, Hamish.

The game got underway and it was very open with both teams looking to take control of the game. We’d urged The Spitfire’s to press high up the pitch today, and to work together as a team when pressing. It took a while to register, but when it did we began to look more comfortable. As it would transpire, it was a high press that led to our first goal as Rory secured the ball and laid it up nicely for Byron to slot it home after 15 minutes ⚽️

2 minutes later the boys doubled their advantage. This time a scramble in the box saw the Racing Club keeper pull off two consecutive saves. The latter from Byron was parried to the calmest head on the pitch; Eddie. He steadied himself and placed the ball into the net ⚽️

Another 3 minutes passed, and it was three. Some tidy football saw a tackle on Ben that was deemed a foul. Some negotiating between the boys saw Seb take the ball, and subsequent free-kick… and the third goal! He placed the ball into the top right corner with a superbly placed effort ⚽️

Seb turned provider on 22 minutes as he played a diagonal ball to the ever impressive Charlie, who took no time to pick his spot and slot the ball into the opposite corner ⚽️

Five star finishing saw us five up on the stroke of half-time. Charlie and Seb swapping roles, as Charlie turned provider for Seb, who finished with a touch of class ⚽️

As tends to be the case, the second half never seems to follow the first when there are a lot of goals. It happens in the Premiership, the Championship and it happens at Grassroots level too. Racing Club came out with a point to prove, and the pressure on us was increasingly difficult to deal with.

We had conceded two goals and they had struck the woodwork 3-4 times before Byron played a low cross from the right side of midfield, and into the path of Charlie. He struck the ball into the side of the net for his second ⚽️ and helped to settle the nerves on the sidelines 👀

A couple of great saves from William, and 2-3 more saves from the woodwork followed, before Racing Club managed to grab another goal before the final whistle sounded. All-in-all a good game with some passages of fabulous football. It’s a shame we couldn’t follow the first half performance into the second half, but the Spitfires had come and achieved the objective(s) that were asked of them from the coaching team 👏🏼👌🏼

Charlie has been with us for a couple of months now and has played in nearly every position so far - nearly every position today as it happens! He never moans, he just gets on with his football to help the team do their best. Coaches player went to Charlie today for that very reason. Fair play Charlie and keep it up 🏆 🙌🏼

Rory as ever was all over the pitch and determined to press with purpose. Not only that but at least two last ditch tackles to save possible goals, led the parents to their choice for player of the match.🏅
