Kites W10 Ladies Softball - Petersfield
On 28th July Clanfield Kites hosted Petersfield at South Lane Meadow for the final match of the Hampshire South-East W10 league. Going into the match Petersfield had a chance to snatch the second place slot in the league if they secured a win. Clanfield Kites had already won the league but were equally keen to win to finish the league phase undefeated. Petersfield won the toss and decided to put the Kites in to bat.
Clanfield’s Sue Andrews (21 off 13 balls) Jo Creese (16 off 14) and Laura King (16 off 14) led the way in what was a very strong overall batting performance, against solid bowling and fielding from Petersfield. Katie Hastie led the Petersfield bowling attack (1 wicket for 18 runs off 2 overs), with a strong contribution from Alison Furse’s 4 over spell for just 22 runs. Kites ended their innings on a total of 349 for 2 wickets.
Petersfield’s Rachel Heapy hit 19 runs from 13 balls, and Charlie Hawkes grabbed a 10 from 11 balls to push the total forward, but Petersfield faced some very robust opposition in the field. Laura King (3 for 9 off of 2 overs, Lydia Windebank (3 for 19 off of 3 overs) and Ray Rees (2 for 20 off of 4 overs) all making significant bowling contributions. Ray Rees and Sarah Lydford led the Kites fielding, each taking two catches and a run-out to limit Petersfield to 256 for 11 wickets, securing the win for Clanfield Kites and an undefeated top spot in the league.
Clanfield Kites now move into the knock-out phase of the 2024 Hampshire W10 competition, eagerly awaiting the outcome of quarter final draw being made on 1st August.
