Boys U16 (2009) Major - Opponent
Final Score: Kill Celtic 1-0 Naas Afc
The game began early on saturday morning at 11:30, on a wet, bumpy pitch in Kill. In the first half both teams played well, with mediocre chances at both ends in the opening half hour. Kill turned up the heat shortly before half time and with a few tricky runs from their danger men. However, Craig was every match for there shots, producing some class saves to go bring us into the break at 0-0.
It was much of them same in the second half, with alot of Kill attacking, showing their class. Our defence had a superb second half and did a really good job of keeping them out time and time again. We soaked up the pressure and launched counter attacks when we won the ball back, and just fell short of going ahead on numerous occasions.
With about 15 minutes left Kill were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Kills striker sent a low effort towards the bottom left corner, but a cruel deflection saw the ball bounce across goal past a helpless Craig, who had already dived, to nestle in the bottom right corner. It was a bad way to go behind but we didnt let it get us down. Infact, after the goal we got better and created more chances down the other end. On the day it just didnt come for us no matter how hard we tried. The game finished 1-0 to Kill bringing our unbeaten run to an end. Despite the result, there were loads of positives to take from the game, and we know now that we have every chance to challenge for this league.
