Mid Argyll 16s v Oban 16s

Mid Argyll 16s 3 Oban 74

After competing well in the first 4 games of the season against older and bigger opposition Oban 16s containing 15 under 15s players travelled to near neighbours Mid Argyll determined to show what they are capable of.

Oban dominated the game from the start with centre Finn MacKechnie crossing to score in the first minute 0-5.

5 minutes later good work from Josh Olds created space for scrum half Finlay Cottier to dart over, MacKechnie added the extras 0-12.

Next up good lineout play from Toby Wilson was driven on by the improving Eachaan Louw the ball was then moved left for MacKechnie to score again, 0-17

Oban then disrupted a Mid Argyll lineout with Aidan Lawrie making good ground for Olds to cross the line, converted by MacKechnie 0-24.

Lawrie then gathered the restart and set off on a lung busting run which saw him tackled 1 metre short of the try line, with Jake Jevons in support the ball was moved in field for Callum MacKay to burst through the opposition defence to score, MacKechnie added the extras 0-31.

Next up it was flying prop Stasiu Kupczak that gathered the restart to race over from half way to score 0-36.

Just before half time a good counter ruck and drive from Connor Maclean saw Wilson score in the corner 0-41.

With the game won Oban's half time team talk centered on improving the playing structure and moving the ball away from the contact area, something the 1st xv coaches have been teaching them at training.

The boys did this immediately with forwards and backs combining to send strong running Lewis Cairns over the try line, MacKechnie added the extras 0-48.

Mid Argyll then kicked a penalty 3-48.

Normal service was resumed when a quick Jevons tap penalty was moved right to Mac Rodwell the following ruck was won and Jevons scored in the corner 3-53.

MacKechnie then intercepted a Mid Argyll attack on halfway to score his hattrick which he also converted 3-60.

More good work followed from Olds, Kupczak Tom Corns, James Blomfield leading to Lawrie scoring 3-67.

The final play of the game saw Cottier sending Jevons over for his second, converted by MacKechnie 3-74.

A good performance which was built on a solid defence and powerful driving play in attack. Lots of good performances from Olds, Jevons, Kupczak and Louw but this week's man of the match award goes to Finn MacKechnie.

Next game is home to Lanark on 29/9.
