16/3/25 League Game v Meridian Lions (Away) – 7-2 Win

Early start on a Sunday morning against a team that have been strong opponents in the past and have always given us a good game, so it was down to our boys to show up and play like they have been doing all season to keep their top spot intact.

Game started off to a flyer with Az scoring within the first minute of the game to then follow up again, with his second in the 5th minute. Ruben then picked up our third on 10 mins to give us a 3 nil lead. Great start by the boys but they had to dig deep as a couple of through balls tested a defensive resilience and Charlie’s keeper skills until Meridian grabbed one back to make it 3 – 1 at half time.

Team talk at half time was to keep the pressure on and start the second half exactly how we did the first half and this is what happened. Ruben scoring his second 2 minutes into the second half. Ruben then added his 3rd and 4th of the game with 2 fantastic shots from distance which gave the keeper no chance of getting them to top off a great game for him and his family. Our last goal came from Az for his hat trick showing great balance and trickery to comfortably slot home.

This was definitely a team performance and probably one of the best of the season and so hard to identify an actual man of the match that it was a team one this week. From Charlie in goal, defensive performances from Lennon, George, Toby, Ez with his constant running and assists and the goals from Ruben and Az, with the others all playing their parts in the game it was a great game to watch.

We play them again now next week at home and will need the same performance again, as we know they will come after us following the result this weekend. Promotion is definitely getting closer now
