Home vs Athy Town

Naas played their first game of the season in a delayed fixture against Athy Town. It was a rocky start by Naas in a division up from where they played last year and a lapse in concentration allowed Athy to take the lead. Great defending by Matthew McAuley, Cian O'Brien and Con O'Brien helped keep Athy from going further ahead. The introduction of Noah Hardiman in defence to replace the injured Cian O'Brien brought a further defiance to the defence which Athy struggled to break down, only getting shots away from distance. Naas held firm and broke away with Oscar Tormey getting fouled in the box. Oscar missed the penalty but was the quickest to react and he made no mistake with the rebound. The half finished 1-1. Athy came out in the second half and upped the pace and soon found themselves 3-1 up. Sean Zbroch then picked up the ball and dribbled by three players and finished into the top corner to make it 3-2. Naas came close again but Matthew Hayes shot just narrowly missed the target. Athy added four more in the last ten minutes of the game to finish 7-2 winners on the night. The result doesn't reflect on the performance though and Naas will be hoping to bounce back in their upcoming games.

Antoni Karpierz had an outstanding performance in midfield showing a lot of determination to take Nàas forward. Elsewhere there were good performances from three players who played their first ever game for the team, Cian McCarthy Walsh, Jacek Baranowski and Mohammed Ismail.

Goals: Oscar Tormey, Sean Zbroch
