U14 Purple 24/25 - Harpenden

GOG U13s Purple vs Harpenden 

We welcomed Harpenden today on yet another great day of weather. We knew them from last year as they won the league and had some good players. We had to start fast and that’s exactly what we did. Two minutes on the clock and with a great turn and finish Emma puts us 1-0 up. A great start,but it was still early. Our players knew they would come back strong! The girls was playing good football but Harpenden was holding us with some good defending. The game was a little back and forth but as ever our defensive unit was solid, shutting down their main striker. We was struggling to get another goal and was hoping to hold our lead for half time, but up steps Mariah with a typical goal poachers goal with two minutes to go.

With that goal, the girls was excited to have a little extra pressure off them. But with a little team talk, we knew Harpenden would come back strong at us! With a few changes the second half starts and we start fast again! The first 10minutes or so they wasn’t able to come out of their half. We really worked on boxing them in which was good to relieve any pressure we could receive. Again Jess was running down the right but unable to hit that final cross/shots. Lana worked hard upfront again with Amaya supporting down the left. Antonia and Ella was bossing the central areas and showing great skills in tight areas. When Harpenden did break our midfield our three defenders Maya, Sofia and Seraphina held firm and was completely at ease. With us still not being able to get a third and be comfortable we bought on Mariah again. She plays in Antonia and she hits a shot but it comes back to Mariah again who unleashed a rocket shot straight into the top corner. Three goal lead and playing some exciting attacking football throughout, Mariah breaks on the left and cuts in to place it bottom right corner to make it 4. Her second hat trick in two weeks. 

Full time 4-0

A very convincing performance from all the girls again. The girls really showed what they are made of offensively, defensively and a collective unit. We the coaches are very proud of the football they are playing these past weeks. So we go again next week in our first cup game.
