U14 Purple 24/25 - Little Canfield
GOG U13s Purple vs Little Canfield
Finally a home match and we welcomed Little Canfield to Churchgate. We have been playing so well and the confidence is showing in their performance, but today was another test.
We start ok, with all the girls knowing the role we wanted them to do. Our midfield was winning everything and pushing forward with everything we had. Jess went down the right and crossed in a great cross, their keeper fumbled it and there was Emma to put us ahead. We definitely deserved that lead with all that possession. Canfield didn’t really get out of their half and that’s down to our defence and midfield putting pressure on them. With all the pressure and possession we had to get another goal to be more comfortable. The ball fell to the feet of Lily in the box and she sets up Emma with a great lay off into her path, she smashes it into the bottom corner to put us up by two. Again our defence was so solid with Maya not only tackling their players but looking for the pass after which is great to see. With only five minutes to go before half time Mariah received the ball from Seraphina who drives forward cuts in and finishes it off to put us ahead by three.
3-0 half time
Us coaches was so proud of the first half performance and knew there was definitely more chances up top but also our defence knew we can handle any threat. We start as we left off dominating the middle and controlling the ball. We had chances at the plenty but their keeper was fantastic making excellent saves from the girls. She kept Canfield in the game completely. With the game in their half for most of the time and us not able to get a fourth, we thought that was it. The ball was down the left with Antonia, she passes to Mariah who looks up and lays it to Seraphina path…. She comes running up to the ball at fall speed and unleashed a wonderful strike straight into the top corner! She was in complete shock herself with that effort. A fantastic strike and what was so good to see was all the girls running up to her to congratulate her.
We were so strong in defence that we only kept them to one effort on target throughout the game. A testament to the hard work from the defence and goalie they are all putting in.
A great result for us today, the girls are doing exactly what we want them to do and working for each other. Next week we have a week off but we play Little Canfield again in two weeks time in the cup and then again in the league a week after. But we will continue to work on things during training and be ready for our next match.
