U11 Turquoise 24/25 - Harpenden Colts
An early ko today for the u11 Turquoise away against Harpenden Colts.
Cold wet and muddy but the girls spirits were high and they weren’t letting the conditions stop them.
Both teams battled hard from the moment the whistle blew, really trying to exploit the wings and use the full width of the pitch. Defending well at both ends for the first 15 minutes saw every effort from both sides cancelled out. Harpenden then won a throw deep in our half and managed to find a way through to break the deadlock.
Luckily the girls responded well and only minutes later Mia played a great ball into the Harpenden box that their keeper couldn’t deal with and Nylah got us back level. ⚽️
With the momentum still in our favour the girls started to pass the ball well. Zuzanna now playing more central got her head up at just the right second. She played a superb through ball to split their defence. Nylah with a great timed run received the ball just in front of their keeper who went to ground early. Nylah calm and composed brushed to the side and buried it for our second. ⚽️
Half time we spoke to the girls about the importance of man marking when out of possession to make sure the opposition had no options.
Second half we started strong and continued to play really well. Every player on the pitch was giving it their all. Harpenden managed to win a corner and unfortunately trying to clear the ball behind we ended up putting it in our own net. As coach Joe mentioned we always try to look at the positives and learn from our mistakes.
It was great to see the whole team rally together to lift each other’s spirits and show how much of a real team they are. The tempo began to slow from both teams late in the game and neither could find that final late winner. Another great performance again from the girls.
POTM was a tough call as always when everyone brings their A game but one girls performance really stood out. We had spoken to her about getting her head up early especially when receiving the ball with her back to goal. She played some great one touch football and was always looking for that bounce pass to set up her oncoming team mates. She was then rewarded with two well taken goals.
Well done Nylah.
