Goffs U10 Turquoise  vs Hitchin Belles Blue

Today the U10 Turquoise welcomed newly promoted Hitchin Belles to Goffs Churchgate.

With an early ko the frost on the pitch was just clearing and the surface was very slick.

We asked the girls to get plenty of touches of the ball in the warm up to get a good feel for the pitch surface. Running on low numbers we asked the girls to go out and try and get early control of the game.

Hitchin started fast and were pressing hard for the first few minutes.

Lola and Lily at the back stood their ground and dealt well with the oncoming pressure.

Lola always marking the last player well and making sure she was always first to the ball.

Me and Paris noticed our shape was looking a little off and it showed.

A quick word with a few players and they suddenly all kicking into life.

Ja’laysia as always was making blistering runs up the wing and managed to put some great balls into the oppositions box.

Ella also came close to scoring early on with great runs into some excellent positions.

We didn’t have to wait long for the deadlock to be broken with some great counterattacking football.

Zuzanna bossing the central midfield role as always made a great driving run but unfortunately had her shot blocked by one of Hitchin’s defenders. Luckily Thea had positioned herself well and followed up with a great strike to give us the lead.

Chloe on the opposite wing battled hard and did some great turns. When Ja’laysia moved to play as striker they both worked well together. Reading each other’s movement and switching roles where necessary.

We continued to pose a constant threat with shots coming in from multiple players.

Hitchin still pushed hard and managed to get a few shots away. One even hitting the bar but Bella worked hard and ensured she got that clean sheet she deserved.

Final quarter and the girls were still pushing hard for another goal.

Ella up front battling hard in 1v1 situations but just couldn’t find the final reward.

Hitchin pressed hard at the end and with everyone playing deeper for the final 5minutes we unfortunately gave away a few free kicks. Luckily we dug deep and got the result we truly deserved.

Potm today was a tough choice as every player on the pitch put a real shift in.

To see them all working so hard for each other is a real pleasure to see, however Me and Paris both felt today’s potm was deserved by Lily.

Whether playing on the wing or in defence she stuck to her role perfectly.

Well done Lily💜
