U11 Turquoise 24/25 - Hemel Hempstead
Today the u10 Turquoise hosted Hemel Hempstead Reds. Always a tough fixture so we spoke to the girls about holding their positions well and focusing on trying to keep the possession.
First quarter both teams battled hard in the midfield both trying to exploit the wings. Zuzanna managed to fire a good long range shot but the Hemel keeper dealt with it well.
Unfortunately at the other end Hemel’s number 3 managed to drive towards goal and slot home the ball at the far post. The girls didn’t drop their heads and battled hard looking for that key pass.
Chloe and Thea both out on the wings played some great football winning lots of their 1v1’s but just couldn’t find that final delivery. Hemel then with their only other chance of the quarter managed to fire a shot towards the top corner. Bella with great positioning managed to leap and get a hand to it but it just crept in.
As the game went on we asked the girls to continue as they were and stay focused.
Bella as always was distributing well to the defence. Lola looking more confident than ever on the ball, played some great forward passes up the wing. Mia and Lily doing what we’d asked - when winning the ball back, drive forward into the space and look for that crucial pass.
Final stages of the game we asked Ella to try to stay more central. She managed to twist and weave her way with ease past Hemel’s now deep sitting deference but just couldn’t find the final reward. The girls still with plenty of passion inside of them were not finished.
Lily with another great in swinging corner found Zuzanna in the middle of the 6yard box. Her shot blocked by Hemel fell for Ja’laysia to calmly slot home.
Within minutes Ja’laysia managed to drive into another dangerous position and slotted home a second.
Unfortunately we ran out of time but the girls showed determination right until the end and never gave up. A very tight fought game which could have gone either way and although the result may have not gone our way seeing the girls execute passages of play straight from the training ground was great to see.
POTM as always with this great group of girls was a tough decision. Chloe possibly the most determined I’ve seen all season and didn’t give up until the final whistle. Lola looking so confident on the ball and showing great footwork pressing forward.
Well done today girls. 💜⚽️
