Goffs Oak U11T vs  Wormley Rovers

Today the U11 Turquoise hosted Wormley.

With the rain falling and the wind blowing it was never going to be great conditions.

The game started off fast with both teams passing the ball well, which led to some great battles on the wings with the girls playing some great football. We unfortunately went behind from a goal the ref knew shouldn’t have stood as a foul throw was taken and he had his whistle in his mouth but let play continue. From this moment forward he took note and blew for over 15 foul throws from the opposition.

We however managed to get in some good positions and force their keeper into some great saves. Just before the break Chloe was through in open space with Nylah and just the one Wormley defender ahead of her. She then had both legs kicked from behind sending her to the ground. With no intention of playing the ball we were awarded a free kick. Badly timed challenges happen and are part of football and the players all showed great respect for each other.

Less can be said for the oppositions coach who followed up by shouting - great tactical challenge and that it’s done in the premier league - so feels it’s acceptable to teach ten year olds to purposely risk injuring a child and sees no issue in teaching them to do it.

However moving on, just before half time wormley strung together some great passes to split our midfield and got their second.

Halftime we asked the girls to make sure they were first to the ball in loose ball situations and continue to close everything down.

Second half the girls sparked straight into action with a great run down the right from Lola-Rose beating two players then picking out Jess with a superb pass straight through the Wormley players legs. Jess was direct with her run and scored a great goal.⚽️

We created endless great chances for the next 20 minutes with a few on target and a  few marginally wide. This then showed the true colours of the opposition coach once more. After a shot from us going wide he found it acceptable to shout great strike whilst smirking mocking a child!

Today there was some great football and respect displayed by both groups of girls on the pitch. Being that bit more clinical in front of goal with the amount of chances we created it may have finished differently.

It’s just a shame someone who’s supposed to be a role model finds it acceptable to act the way they do in front of a group of children.

Today both coaches agreed on the POTM instantly. Lola made some exceptional driving runs upfield something we’ve been pushing the defenders to feel more confident in doing. Battling at the back and out wide she often found herself outnumbered but dealt well with the pressure and always came out on top. Well Done Lola.
