U11 Turquoise 24/25 - Chorleywood
Today GOG U10 Turquoise hosted Chorleywood.
A game I was really looking forward to as it has always been a very well matched fixture.
Wet, windy and muddy….. the only way to describe today’s conditions but the girls seemed to thrive off it.
We warmed up well focussing on crosses from wide areas and our positions when attacking and defending corners.
From the second the game kicked off we started well. The girls kept the majority of the possession stringing together some great passes and dictated the game. We managed to keep the ball in the opposition’s half leading to us creating some great chances.
Thea out wide linked up well with Zuzanna both feeding some great passes forward to Ja’laysia.
We didn’t have to wait long until Ja’laysia made one of her great driving runs forward scoring a well struck goal.
With Lola and Lily starting in defence they kept it tight at the back making sure Bella didn’t have too much to do early on. Then Ja’laysia made another great run down the right wing and put in a great ball where Chloe was waiting at the back post to slot home from close range.
Second quarter.
Chorleywood came out a lot faster and we found the game became quite end to end.
Bella was involved a lot more at the back but always found herself positioned well to deal with any oncoming attacks.
A’ja and Harmoni were now on the wings showing some great desire driving forward always looking to play the ball into the box where Ella was making countless great runs.
Mia and Thea showed great determination and strength at the back holding off Chorleywood well.
Third quarter.
As soon as the whistle blew the girls showed they weren’t finished yet. Lily now playing in the central midfield linked up well with some lovely one touch passes and great defensive work. Lola solid as a rock behind her. Her reading of the game and positioning improve every single week.
Harmoni whipping some amazing crosses into the box and when playing out on the left cutting back inside well onto her right foot. She came really close with one hitting the post.
The possession became quite even and neither team looked in control. Fortunately a long ball fell well for Thea who spotted Ja’laysia in a great position. She played a ball over the top and Ja’laysia went on to score her second.
With a few minutes where we seemed to drop off the pace we conceded a goal.
Bella did all she could by diving down well fully stretched to stop the initial shot. Unfortunately the striker had followed her run and managed to tap it in.
Final quarter.
The girls knew the job wasn’t done and pressed well. Zuzanna showing great confidence and strength on the ball battled hard in the midfield. Ella as always making great runs into the box and was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet.
A’ja back on the wing again made an amazing run the full length of the pitch and shot just wide. She took some great throws today and had one of her best games to date. Mia played the sweeper role at the back excellently. Making sure she played some great balls forward.
Bella had to make a few saves but was always confident and in control.
Chloe made two great runs from out wide on the right into the box but with Chorleywood now playing very defensively struggled to find space for a shot.
Harmoni again showing great skill in 1v1 situations beating her marker out on the left to then put some lovely balls into the box.
Final whistle.
A day where we had a full squad so lots of rotation. For weeks like today where the girls go out and battle for every ball it worked in our favour. Each time any of them stepped out onto the pitch they gave it 100%.
Paris and I were massively impressed by them all.
Player of the match today went to Ja’laysia.
She scored two great goals and got herself an assist. Her passing today in the final third of the pitch was excellent.
