Leamington started the game brightly with long spells of possession and some clever link up play between Zac, Roman and James M. It took 6 minutes for the first goal of the game and it game from further good work down the left hand side between Zac, Roman and James, Roman making the telling pass to put James through on goal who took his chance very well and secured the 1-0 lead. Leamington continued to dominate the first half with much of the possession and further chances. Hit on the break Leamington conceded their first goal at the 15 minute point which was unfortunate shooting from close range gave Max in goal very little chance of saving it, up until this point had made a couple of good stops. Leamington unfortunate to go into the break drawing as had been much the better team throughout the first half with all players giving a good account of themselves. There were debuts for a number of Leamington players who joined the team throughout the summer Zac M, James F, Jeevan and Olly all playing for the first time. With James F going on to be awarded player of the match with a fine performance. Second half started to show that it was the teams first game of the season and the team still rotating positions we struggled to keep up with the opposition and very quickly went 2-1 then 3-1 down. Fitness also appeared to play a part, despite fresh legs coming on off the bench we found ourselves second to every ball. Coventry United ended the game 5-1 winners which despite the score line didn't reflect the quality that Leamington showed, especially in the first half.
