U11 Turquoise 24/25 - Berkhamsted
Today the U10 Turquoise made the freezing cold trip away to Berkhamsted.
For the warm up we paired the girls up and had them working on their first touch’s. Main focus being on body positions when receiving the ball.
With A’ja and Bella both away this week we had to rotate positions slightly. Biggest change being in goal. Luckily Zuzanna offered to go in for the first two quarters.
The game started fast and we passed the ball well. We created some great passages of play up the wings and were unlucky not to take an early lead. Ella was played a great ball through the middle that she controlled well. Unluckily for us their centre back tracked back well and cleared her line.
In the centre Berkhamsted played some great football with some lovely short passes to work their way up the pitch. Zuzanna found herself in a 1v1 situation early on but she stood her ground and made a great save.
We didn’t have to wait long for a goal that we truly deserved. Playing out short from the back we worked the ball out wide on the right to Ja’laysia. With a great driving run she burst into the edge of the area and scored with a well taken shot.
Berkhamsted made a few great attacks from wide positions but our solid defenders and goalkeeper kept them at bay.
Not long into the second quarter and we won a corner. Harmoni stepped up and put a great in swinging ball into the 6yard box. Struggling to deal with it their defender deflected it into their own goal.
Second half we spoke to the girls about making sure the tempo remained high and continuing to be first to the ball. Zuzanna agreed she wanted to stay in goal for the whole game.
The game became quite end to end for a while and both teams struggled to dominate the possession of the ball. Zuzanna made some great saves to keep us on top. She controlled the back of the pitch and gave great direction to her defenders.
On the counter attack the ball was played out wide to Ja’laysia. Taking on two players she turned well and put an excellent low ball across the box. Harmoni running in opened her body up perfectly to score a lovely first time finish.
Berkhamsted didn’t let this stop them from applying constant pressure. With a great run the full length of the left wing twisting and turning they scored a great goal.
The girls quickly regrouped and made sure they kept hold of their well deserved lead. Playing some great football we pressed well but they nearly caught us on the counter attack again. Knocking the ball out wide to the right just past the half way line their player set themselves up perfectly on their right foot. She took a great strike that was dipping and curling towards goal but Zuzanna made a finger tip save to deny her.
Final whistle
The opposition team as well as Paris and I unanimously chose today’s well deserved player of the match.
She stepped up and played the whole game in goal. Making some amazing saves and distributed the ball perfectly.
Well done Zuzanna.
