Boys U18 (2007) Major - Coil Dubh A.F.C
U18s Back On Track With Impressive Win.
The u18s travelled away to take on Coil Dubh after the midterm break and coming off the back of a dismal display last time out v Newbridge Utd.
The game started well with both sides settling early but neither side really wanting to take full control of the game, Coil Dubh would strike first when a mix up at the back allowed their front man drive through onto a loose ball and slot home under the on rushing Leon Curran in goal, this didn't deter the Naas side however and they upped the tempo and took over, playing some decent football and keeping Coil Dubh penned back, Naas' hard work would pay off on the 15th min when a ball played out wide to Leo Ahern allowed him to play a ball across the box for Dylan Hand to fire home and level the game.
Naas now took control and continued to play the better football with Coil Dubh sticking to their game plan of a long ball in behind the defence their only way to create any clear opportunities to trouble the Naas side. On the 35th min Naas would take the lead their play deserved when again they won the ball in the middle of the park with Cian Thomas who played the ball into the wide channel again for Tommy Carey to deliver a ball across the box to find Dylan Hand yet again who stroked home his 2nd of the game and give Naas the lead. The rest of the half continued with Coil Dubh playing the long ball in behind and Naas controlling the game with their passing and wide play. The first half wouldn't see anymore clear chances come for either side and so at the half time whistle Naas led 2-1.
The 2nd half would see Coil Dubh come out strong and now press Naas at every opportunity but still looking for that long ball in behind which Naas now we're dealing with at ease, as the clock ticked on tempers began to flare on both sides as the intensity rose and the physicality of both sides was ready to boil over Dylan Hand would yet again find himself in the right place at the right time on the 60th minute when a loose ball from a decent Naas attack came to him at the edge of the box he rifled home his 3rd of the game and extended the Naas lead, Coil Dubh rose their game again though and continued to battle and would close the gap when Sam Greene lost the ball out on the wing and Coil Dubh found the net with a cross come shot to bring the game back to 3-2, Naas still went about their business and continued to cause problems for Coil Dubh out wide and looked the more likely side to score again, tempers eventually boiled over when a late tackle from Orest Rybak enraged not only the Coil Dubh players but also their touchline, Naas refused to get involved in the handbags that ensued and saw several Coil Dubh players carded with one picking up a 2nd yellow, again this would lift Naas who took the game to Coil Dubh now and on the 85th min Charlie Reid would win a free kick out on the right wing, Ryan Gillane stepped up to the free and his sublime delivery would see the ball sail over everyone and into the Coil Dubh net, Naas again went after Coil Dubh and continued to win the ball in the midfield with both Jude Giltrap and Cian Thomas working relentlessly, As the clock wound down to the 90th min Naas would create one more chance when a long ball from Leon Curran in goal found Leo Ahern who turned his marker and drove into the box only to be brought down in the area and rewarded a penalty, Leo stepped up to take the resulting spot kick but saw his effort stopped by the Coil Dubh keeper, Naas continued to control the game and ran down the remaining minutes to take the 3 points.
