Open Age Women's First Team - Burley Trojans
After 2 convincing win the ladies travelled away to Burley Trojans in hopes of making it 3 wins from 3.
We started strong on the front foot creating a chance at goal within the first minute of the game. The ladies started to control the game but this proved difficult to maintain in the wet conditions.
The first goal of the game came as Joni Stainton and Rosie Moor linked up to get the ball across the goal falling at Lily Stancliffe’s feet who neatly placed it in the back of the net to make it 1-0.
The rest of the first half saw chances for both sides failed to put away to go into halftime level at the break.
The second half resumed and after a strong first 5 minutes Rosie Moor was slipped through on goal slotting it past the keeper to make it 2-0. The ladies proceeded to drop off letting the opposition back into the game.
In quick succession Burley managed to grab two identical goals from cutbacks across goal. The game was all level at 2-2 and provided us with a tough challenge to keep our winning streak up with time running out.
On the day, it was Grace Vanderhyde who stepped up to win the game for the team. As we searched for a winner and proceeded to play long, the ball rolled to her feet as she sent it forward towards goal. At this point the ball was sure enough heading for the back of the net dipping under the bar last minute and winning the game for the team. The ladies all ran to congratulate Grace with a sigh of relief.
The ref blew the full time whistle which saw us win the match 3-2. Was it deserved? Probably not, but sometimes you need luck in football and today it surely fell our way.
MOTM - Alice Sweeney with a very strong performance this week, making her mark as soon as she stepped foot on the pitch, making crucial challenges and slipping our forwards through on goal on numerous occasions
Team Player - Grace Vanderhyde, she laced her boots up and got stuck in, not giving up on the game and having the audacity to shoot from the halfway line in the dying moments of the game to win it, keeping our winning streak alive.
