This morning - and what a beautiful morning it was too by the way ☀️ - we headed away to play Inter Coventry on a hidden gem of a pitch in Binley 🍟. Beautiful day, beautiful pitch, let’s go Spitfires!

I’ll keep this report to the point otherwise we could be reading this for hours, as it was an action packed encounter. We found ourselves a little light on player numbers - due to various other things today - but in the end that maybe helped us in a way, as the team were able to settle and gel into the roles they’d been assigned.

From the off we took the game by the horns and began to stamp our authority. We took the lead in the 6th minute and built on that throughout the remainder of the first half.

Goals from: Charlie ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️, Rory ⚽️⚽️ & Byron ⚽️ Final assists coming from Eddie x2, Byron & Oliver G 👏🏼

Half Time. We’d conceded a late goal in the first half, and it was the nature of the goal that made us ask for more focus in the second half defensively. We’d got carried away with a lead and the boys had forgotten to support Ben & Oliver C in defence when needed - who were both having an exceptional game. Other than that we wanted the passing to continue, with more voices to be heard; it was all a bit quiet at times.

The second half went much the same way as the first, and there was some moments of real maturity from the boys at times - something we hope to see more as we move into 9 a-side next season.

Goals this half from Eddie ⚽️⚽️, Byron ⚽️⚽️, Rory ⚽️⚽️, Charlie ⚽️⚽️⚽️ and Oliver G ⚽️ with the assists being claimed by Ben, Eddie, Byron, Oliver C and William 👌🏼

Goal of the game - and it relates to the earlier comment about mature unselfish football - has to be the penultimate goal. The ball was played backwards from midfield, and across the back line (SMILE - our training reference for this type of play) before being played forwards at pace. The ball was played through, by a sublime defence splitting pass, into the feet of Oliver C. He was in a 1v1 situation in the box and instead of drilling the ball and going for glory, he drew the keeper off his line and knocked a great sideways pass into the path of a stampeding Charlie, who drilled it home first time into an empty net👌🏼

That unselfish clever play, along with an all around great performance earned Oliver C the Coaches Player of Match vote - two weeks on the bounce takes some doing, but he managed it today 🏆 Parents player was a split vote for all around play; breaking up opponent passages of play and being an all-around terrier in the middle of the park. These two players were Byron🏅& Oliver G🏅

Well done though, to the entire team today 👏🏼👏🏼 An absolutely fantastic game with dominant, determined, structured and focussed football on display… even if we did concede two soft goals 👀 Coaches are never happy… 😜
