Away match vs Harpenden

GOG U13s Purple vs Harpenden

On a sunny mild morning, we travelled to Harpenden to play our second from last game of the season. With us wrapping up the league last week we now have to focus on winning our last two games to go the season unbeaten.

We had to start the game with not our regular back three but the ones who stepped in battled well throughout the game. Seraphina who took the captain's armband was very vocal and a demanding presence at the back.  Harpenden didn't cause us any harm throughout the first half with Aaliyahs making one good save around the post. Lily and Bonnie were dominant in the middle of the park, putting in some great challenges and distribution to the wings. With one of the distributions, LilyJ played a great ball into Mariah's path on the left where she slotted it in the bottom corner to put us 1-0 up.

Emma was pressing their defenders into mistakes and Jess was on the right beating their left-back on numerous occasions.

Half time 1-0

With some great play in the first half, it was all about seeing the game out and maybe getting another one or two goals to be confident.

Amaya comes into the middle to let LilyJ have a rest for the start of the second half. She was battling well also. Harpenden came out strong in the second half knowing there was only one goal in it still. They definitely created a few more chances at the start of the second half but our defenders and keeper were up to the task of keeping them out. Jess would carry on where she left off in the first half and continued to put in a great performance down the right. Bonnie who was blowing a little from all the running and tackles she was putting in had to take a rest. We would switch it up again and put Mariah, Lana, Lily and Elisa back on to get some fresh legs on. Maya who has been exceptional at the back really got her challenges spot on in the second half and also her distribution when under pressure from their attackers was phenomenal. It got a little nervous with a few minutes to go but the girls held on and continued their unbeaten run in the season.

With winning the league last week we thought the girls really impressed us coaches, as they still didn't let up throughout this game. Every one of them putting in the work to get the job done and get the three points. We now move onto next week for our final league game of the season away to Bedwell.
