U11 Comets - Meadow Sports Reds

 Today we played away to MeadowSports Reds . Like us, they are a new team this season . Before the game Alex informed us it was his nans birthday and she had come to watch him so we made a pact for him to score this game for her . We had a full squad too as Luca was back to play after suffering a broken arm before the season was about to start. 

 The comets started strong at kick off and quickly chased down the oppositions players to attack the ball which rewarded us with the first goal shortly after kick off,  guess who would get the first goal …… Alex.  With us having the upper hand not long after starting the game Comets saw an opportunity to grab another goal and after a big free kick from Alex from within our own half, the ball ended up at the feet of this weeks captain Zaeem who put the ball in the back of the net securing his first goal for the club and making it 2-0 . 

With the opposition 2 goals down on the first quarter and under pressure they had one or two players who battled hard and unfortunately a foot was too high and ended up in Alex’s hip which led to a substitution for him to recover. Just before the end of the first quarter Josh added to the score sheet getting his second of the season. 

We started the 2nd quarter the same way as the first with determination to win with some great attack and defending as a team and after a shot on goal was pushed wide we won a corner.  With the corner taken and MeadowSports doing some good defending to deny our players efforts it was rolling out for a goal kick but Henry kept it in play to then pass to Zaeem who the kicked it towards Thomas who at close range took a gamble and put it in the back of the goal.  

 We had a change around of positions at the half way mark as we had the advantage. We opted to stick Henry up front after his hard work in the first half and coming so close to scoring, he put in a good effort and battled every ball that came his way and after a few more close calls from the Comets of hitting the post and bar a cross from Josh set up Henry inside their box to grab his first goal for the club . 

Comets battled in midfield against  Meadowsports two strongest players who used a bit more force than needed to try and win including leaving a foot in to a tackle /shirt pulling and a few barges , however our players gave as good as they got and didn’t let this slight bit of toughness overcome them and didn’t allow these players to get a chance with the ball. 

We was on the attack and after their defence taking the ball away from us they ran towards our goal and soon after the ball ended up in our goal making it 5-1 .

Towards the last few minutes we won a corner and this was taken by our regular Corner taker, Alex, who placed it at the back post where our left winger Fletcher was waiting unmarked , the ball came to him and bounced off his chest and just past the goalkeepers finger tips, securing us another goal.

With the sun making this October day feel like summer time the players didn’t want to settle for just 1 scoop of ice cream today , they wanted 6 - final score 6-1 👏
