U11 Comets - Guildford city
Todays game was an organised friendly as we had a league game cancelled at the start of the week.
We were away to Guildford city who’s new team will be joining our league after the half term break. This didn’t mean that they were to be taken lightly as going off of last seasons games against their other teams , it wasn’t going to be one sided.
We started the first quarter with no real difference or advantage to either team. Both had chances to score and both stopping the other team from scoring. In particular Will our keeper managed to pull off some great saves. We had a couple of attacking runs from this weeks striker Fletcher but he unfortunately couldn’t get the shot in the goal.
At the break we switched Fletcher to the wing , Alex and Zaeem came on in center mid and striker positions which resulted in some good build up play from our defence of Henry and Dylan to us leading an attack from Alex to pass to Fletcher who then passed to Zaeem but their keeper came running out to just beat Zaeem to the ball.
Just before the half time break Guildford city took a shot from outside of the box and placed it top corner of the goal - credit where it’s due , it was a good goal and not many keepers would have stopped that strike .
At the break we gave a rest to two of our defenders Fizaan, who had been playing great on the left wing for a change and Dylan, who had been defending along side Henry.
We put Alex at the back with Henry and knowing it’s wasn’t Alex’s position to play in he worked well with Henry to stop the attacks on goal.
The opposition were in our goal area on the attack and with several of our players preventing them scoring, the ball eventually made it’s way pass the keeper and Into the goal making it 2-0 before the final break , however we were told by our players that the ball went out of play and should have been a goal kick which is why they stopped their defending. This was also mentioned by parents after the game. But the ref makes the call and we stick by them so no contest was made.
Our final quarter our players continued to take shots at the goal with josh just missing the target and Dylan who was now on the right wing making some great runs but also having his shots stopped. Some great passing from the Comets led to an attack towards their goal, the ball was played out to Fletcher on the wing who then quickly passed across to Alex who took a shot first time but again their keeper stopped the ball from going past him . Even Guildfords managers said it was brilliant play and build up by the Blues.
Final score 2-0 and our player of the match was scooped up by Will, who didn’t let his head drop despite two goals going past him and for having some great saves to prevent them time after time.
