U11 Cougars - Ashford Town
Tough day at the office for the FC today but once again a massive hand for a group of lads that showed an incredible will to fight all the way till the final whistle.
Isaac from the Youth helped us out in sticks today and had an absolutely fantastic game. There wasn't much he could do for any of the goals, but made some smart saves, gobbled up loose balls and commanded his area. A particular highlight was directing traffic from the halfway line when pushing up for a corner. A superb performance from IB1, we are all very proud of him.
The boys stuck to their guns throughout, we wanted them to concentrate on playing their football, being confident playing out from the back and aggressive in the final third. Although we were caught out a few times you have to appreciate that the opposition were a very good side, we will stick to the process and continue to encourage the boys to express themselves.
It wasn't until the third quarter that the boys began to get a foothold in the game. Tom Pinchbeck got himself of the mark for the season, belting home from inside the area. Jay sent a couple of players for hotdogs late on the game with a brilliant run.
We asked the boys to make sure they left everything out on the pitch in the last quarter.. they certainly did that. We couldn't have asked more from them. A disappointing result, but a lot of positives, and most importantly.. a team that want to play good, attractive football and work hard for each other. Final score, 5-1 to Ashford Town.
Today's POTM was TC, unrelenting pressing, he was everywhere today. A great performance.
