U12 Cougars - Ascot United
Fantastic opening game of the season and an excellent performance by the boys. Ascot United are a decent side and gave us a tough game last season at home when it finished 1-1. After a tight opening 8mins Cougars took the lead through Johann after brilliant work by Logan down the right wing. Flashed the ball across the box and Johann was there to finish.
2mins later it was 1-1. An overload created by Ascot after some nice passing up to the forward who got in ahead of Oscar, standing in for Rocky today as keeper, to poke it home.
Ascot grew in confidence from the goal and on 18mins took the lead with a low finish inside the box. 2-1 to the home team.
Ascot really had the wind in their sails now and could have made it 3-1 had it not been for an excellent save from Oscar.
Cougars didn't have to wait long to be level and after a beautiful one-two between Rory and Logan on the half way line split Ascot open for Rory to gallop down the right flank. Rory delivered a perfect pass low across the box which just evaded Ethan but was met with Jake at the back post. Parity restored!
4mins later it was 3-2 to Cougars. Louie breaking up play in midfield brilliantly then striding forward with the ball. Louie rode a strong tackle from behind and stayed on his feet to compose himself, and with the forwards marked took on the shot from outside the box. Not his best connection but enough to cause the keeper doubt who let it slip through to the cross the line.
Cougars came out in the second half on the offensive and confident from the score reverse. Just 5mins after the restart Cougars had added two more goals. The first from a lovely driving run from Logan from midfield who then struck across goal from the right side of the box, the ball coming off the keeper but only for quick reactions from Ethan who managed to get a side foot on it and place it home, and Louie's second of the game after fine work by Johann down the left to cross the ball to the advancing Louie with a good finish with his right foot.
At 5-2 Ascot looked finished but continued to huff and puff and after a couple of near missed and a shot against the bar they got their reward with a third goal. However a comeback was not to be as Cougars went up through the gears again and another amaxing run from Logan inviting the defence towards him, slid a perfect reverse pass to Johann who let the ball come across his body and finished low and hard with the trusted left foot - 6-3 Cougars.
The full time whistle blew and a thoroughly deserved victory for the away side. Both team observed a minutes silence before the game impeccably and an excellent game from both sides all round.
