Boys U15 (2010) Premier - Old Fort Celtic
Match reports are not as nice to write when the lads suffer a defeat.
Match kickoff on a dry and sunny morning in Portlaoise against newcomers to the leage Old Fort Celtic. It was clear from the start Old Fort were a well drilled team with some excellent players.
Old Fort started the brighter in the first 15 minutes and looked dangerous from a couple of half chances. Naas settled into the game, and started to create chances. Adam Bracken went close from 25 yards and Ned Keogh had a couple of half chances.
Naas looked dangerous on the counter and following a glorious 40 yard ball from Max Galvin, James McGrath was bearing down on goal, James tool the shot early and missed to the right.
Naas lost Ben Harrington to an ankle injury midway through thr first half.
Second half kicked off and Naas went from a 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 to counteract the Old Forte formation.
Old Forte started the stronger and James Lennon was called into action after 7 minutes and made a brilliant save. Naas introduced Tadgh Fennell and Andrew O Toole to freshen things up. Both played particularly well with Tadgh nullifying tricky left Winger for Old Forte.
The only goal came midway through the second half way A quick break saw the Old Forte striker through. Matthew McCarthy and Fred Cowdell seemed to have got back but the striker got through and placed the ball into the corner.
After the goal Naas reacted and dominated the last 15 minutes and created some chances. Ciam Leonard went closest twice following an excellent ball by Adam Bracken and Tadgh O Neill on 2 spectate occasions.
Ref blew the whistle and that was it. Lads could not be faulted for effort , commitment. On the day they were just a little below par and Old Fort were a well organised good team and best of luck to them in the next round.
Best for Naas on thr day were Max Galvin, Matthew McCarthy, and all 5 subs having an impact off the bench today.
