Boys U10 (2015) Blue - Athy Town

A convincing 4-1 win in our second game of the season against a dogged Athy side.
Athy started the brighter of the two sides and grabbed an early goal before our lads had really settled into the game. Sean Browne, who acquitted himself really well in his first start for the Blue team, then made an incredible diving save to prevent us from going further behind.
That save seemed to inject some impetus into the Naas team. Freddie Finan played a superb long ball up the right side towards the opposition goal. With the goalkeeper advancing, Seamie Keating used his height to volley the ball over his head and into the empty net.
After the equaliser the lads really settled into the game and our midfield started connecting well together in attack. This brought the next goal with Charlie McDaid putting Seamie through well to slot home his second.
In truth the result was never really in doubt after going ahead. The Athy team were struggling to get through the resolute Naas defence of Finn Barrett. Freddie Finan and Robert Culkovs. Zach Rainbow fed Seamie on the break and the striker didn’t need to be asked twice before he grabbed his hat trick.
The second half was a far tighter affair. Fionn Sheridan shone on the ball when he moved into midfield and grabbed a deserved goal to put Naas three up. John McCoy was very industrious and came close once or twice to grabbing Naas’s fifth goal.
A superb performance from a team that is starting to connect really well together. Well done to Seamie on the hat trick and to Fionn for his goal. It was great to see the players working hard for each other, as evidenced by the assists coming from four different players. We were missing some of our goalies today so a huge thanks to Sean and Robert for stepping in to cover between the sticks.
