U13 Turquoise 24/25 - Berkhampstead

today we hosted berkhampstead. After playing them previously in the season we knew it would be a tough game. It was a close game from the off with most of our play coming down the right wing. Lexi was producing some wonderful crosses but we just weren’t attacking the box as we normally do. Finally she whipped in a great ball after some nice footwork out wide and Pheobe was there to tap the ball home ⚽️1-0 both teams continued to battle until half time

At the break I told the girls that we had to

Continue as we were going and the forward players had to attack the box more and just needed to believe in ourselves as we weren’t playing the football we have done this season. 

second half kicked off and it was pretty much the same. Both teams going at it. Berkhampstead broke and managed to get one on one. The shot was straight at the keeper but just to high! ⚽️1-1 we seemed to react to that and Ellie played in alexia who went passed to players and laid the ball off to calleigh who who finished with a first time shot hitting the post and going in ⚽️2-1 I thought we would kick on from there. We hit the crossbar from a Lexi corner and that was about as close as we came again! Berkhampstead broke down the left and after a very nice passage of passing scored a very well work equalizer finding the bottom corner! ⚽️2-2 it was tight from then in both teams were trying hard to find the winner. But unfortunately berkhampstead we’re awarded a penalty with 5 minutes to go! Was it a penalty? Not in my opinion but we won’t go into that as the ref made his decision. They put it into the top corner to give the keeper no chance. 2-3 

It’s a massive blow for us today and has cost us any chance we had if winning the league! But we will learn from this and we still have a lot to play for with some big games coming up. The girls always come back strong and I expect nothing less from them.
