U9 Purple - Hillmorton U9 Blue
The game started with a flurry of activity as both teams looked to establish their dominance. We played some superb football between our forwards to carve out some good opportunities. The build-up play itself was great to watch, with our players really expressing themselves in creativity and progressive play. We struck first, with Milo finding the net after a well-worked team move. However, the opposition immediately replied with a counterattack, equalizing through a well-taken through ball. After we registered our second ten minutes later, again they immediately levelled with a lapse in concentration allowing a dribble in and shot.
The second half saw a more controlled and gritty performance, where our boys had to work hard to find a third, on this occasion a great through ball to Thomas who managed to get away from the retreating defenders and poke the ball past the charging keeper. This time, we had a lead and we were determined to hold onto it.
With one goal separating the teams for a large portion of the second half, we hung on in and changed to a back three to try and defend the lead. We showed great defensive solidarity and hit the opposition on a counter attack which finally put the game to bed in the final seconds of the match.
A very spirited performance, showing great character throughout the team, to want to win first, second and third balls. Great effort and the boys can be extremely proud of themselves.
