U11 Comets - Meadow sports fc

Match report ——

Todays game was bound to be a tough game to play with Meadow sports wanting revenge on us winning against them earlier in the season and with us also missing two defenders, Henry and Fizaan, off with sickness . 

1quarter - the game started with overnight rain making the pitch muddy in most places and rain just starting to fall to add this.  With Dylan taking up goalie in the first half that left Will and Luca (who was todays captain) to be the main defenders to start our game , and what a job they did , they were both kept busy from the kick off with most of their team on the attack and wanting to get that first goal but some brilliant defending put a stop to that and we kept that clean sheet for the first quarter . Luca was putting his body on the line and ended up taking a knock early in the game leaving him to take a rest on the bench . 

2ndquarter -we started strong and determined to take the lead and our attacks kept getting denied by Meadow sports . 

But we were soon to take the lead when the ball bounced to Josh who shot first time from outside area to make it 1-0 . Meadowsports were quick to bounce back after the restart and their shot on goal was blocked by Will but unfortunately deflected into the back of the net . Never mind the own goal, what matters was he made the block first. 

With the opposition back in the game they wanted to take the lead and again ran at our defence and with their shot unfortunate to catch the hand of a comets player a penalty was given . With Dylan facing his first penalty in a match we prayed it went his way . But we didn’t need to pray , the ball was never going to go past Dylan , and he stopped it to deny them taking the lead with parents cheering him on . 

3rd quarter . Will put on the gloves to go in goal and let Dylan have a break / time outfield . With the Comets now eager to get back the advantage we played with some great passing to one another and even placing balls between the opposition for us to run onto which was really good to see . However another over power of our defence lead to a goal to meadow sports making it 2-1 . We was quickly on the fight back though with Zaeem placing a ball with great accuracy through to Fletcher on goal who shoots to make it 2-2 . 

Final quarter and all to play for . 

Dylan now in defence worked brilliantly with Luca to close down any attack meadow sports thought about . Dylan won the ball and continued to run towards the goal and take a shot , which bounced of a defender for him to take another shot and another shot before it rebounded off the post into the penalty spot where goal hungry Thomas was waiting and kicked the ball first time into the back of the net making it 3-2 . Did we want just three goals this game? , absolutely not . Alex on corners placing them into the box throughout the game again with great accuracy. Fletcher nearly got a second goal from a corner but was just hit over the bar . With minutes left to spare we again looked to score goal with every player touching the ball atleast once, we played with passion and determination to work it up the field where

Thomas was waiting inside the box to again take a shot on goal to make it 4-2 . 

Final score 4-2 comets , a win before Christmas lifts the spirits high . 

Our player of the match goes to Will for hard work in defence and great saves in goal .

Another Rocket to victory for the Comets today.
